review 1: Jennie is at her wits end and hoping this move will be a fresh start for her and her family. Jennie's husband, Shep, just lost his latest job and their family continues to be in financial shambles. With an out of the blue inheritance that not only provides a house but also a small bicycle business, they move in hopes of starting again. However, when they arrive to the their "new" house, it is in shambles and the business doesn't look much more promising. Jennie befriends an Amish family and through that friendship learns the true meaning of family.Oh, I may be a little biased for this book as I read it on Christmas Eve and Christmas day. I just couldn't help feeling like I could connect with Jennie. Her family was in shambles, non-communicative, and her husband refused to ... moresee that she should be working and not at home. When Jennie decides to take matters into her own hands, the relationship she has with her husband deteriorates even more. Now, I won't say I connect with the family in shambles aspect or the husband communication issues, but I did connect with Jennie's feeling of wanting to fix things and not knowing what to do. She so wants her family to be like that of her new Amish friend, but in her mind, her family is so far from it, it seems nearly impossible. And Jennie's feeling of wanting to do more to provide for the family but not knowing what or how to do it, oh, I could definitely connect with that. I'm not even sure I can explain it accurately, but this story really touched me and I had a hard time putting it down. It really was just a great, short, sweet, feel-good book to read during this blessed holiday. A reminder of what is really important during the holidays.This was my first book by Cynthia Keller and I was pleasantly surprised. If you're looking for a great story that intertwines an Amish family and an Englisch family, then I highly recommend this book! review 2: Jennie and her family move to Lancaster County after her husband, Shep loses his job. He has inherited a home and also a place work. Sounds so perfect, right?:). They soon realize that it's not what they expected. Jennie was hoping that by making this move it would be like starting over for all of them. The family has begun to tear apart in the past. Jennie and Mattie, an Amish neighbor soon strike up a friendship that leads Jennie and her family to gradually become a loving family again. I enjoyed this quick and easy story to read, but I was a little disappointed that it didn't convey that Christ is the one that was helping Jennie's family to change. Mattie and her family was just an instrument. less
