Avraham Avraham
review 1: When his mother reports that teenager Ofer Sharabi has not come home from school, Inspector Avraham sends her away, though he can't help but worry about the situation. It's only been a few hours, after all. But the boy never does return, and Avraham and the rest of the Tel Aviv police look desperately for a lead on the case. Meanwhile, the neighbor in the apartment downstairs, high school teacher and would-be writer Ze'ev Avni tries to make friends with Avraham, using the knowledge he gleaned in tutoring the boy. Mishani boldly pauses the action as Avraham goes on a long-planned week of police exchange in Brussels. If Avraham had stayed in Israel, he would not have the startling insight that gives a shocking twist to the last few pages. Intriguing look at another cult... moreure, but not for action fans.
review 2: What drew my attention to this novel, a mystery, was that it was written by an Israeli and is set in a city there. A teen-ager, an unlikely run-away disappears. The search for the missing teen-ager is complicated by the actions of a neighbour of the boy, by competition from one of his colleagues, by a professional trip to Belgium and by his own crisis of confidence. I am looking forward to the second book from this author. less
