review 1: The writers probably knew the series was being cancelled by this point, with only a few issues to go. As a result, some storylines seemed rushed, while others were abandoned altogether. Yet the series had lost so much of its focus that it really didn't seem to matter. Personally, I read through because I knew the series was ending. My biggest problem with the Guardians of the Galaxy series is that too much attention and story was devoted to the least interesting characters. The more compelling characters--Peter Quill, Rocket Raccoon, Drax--almost got pushed aside in favor of characters who just needed to get killed off.
review 2: The, what felt to me, abbreviated ending is not the fault of writers Abnett and Lanning. With the title's cancellation and being fold
... moreed into an event that wrapped up one if not two other titles they needed to try to reach some sort of conclusion. While they maintain the self-depreciating humor that has been one of the hallmarks of the title, they find a way to add that oh so familiar villain (in disguise) of Ctuhlhu (which is used in the event wrap of series). For the most part they make me feel something for most of the central characters whether it is humor, pity, or even some small joy. IN some ways it is a shame sales were not high enough for the title to continue. less
