review 1: Perfect Peace by Daniel Black was a real page turner for me. I finished it in three or four days as the story unfolds about the Peace family. The mother, who was a victim of abuse by her mother, wanted a little girl so badly that she decided to take her seventh son and dress him as a girl. She was able to fool the family and the Arkansas town until Perfect was eight years old. The mother, Emma Jean, tells Perfect the truth and is changed into Paul at the father’s insistence. The family goes through many changes as they attempt to teach Paul how to be a boy and a man. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and it has a strong theme showing cause and effect. Truly, what goes around comes around in this beautifully written tale. 10/14
review 2: I read th
... moreis book quickly because of the writing but also because I wanted to see how the lives of the characters would develop. And I'm interested to read another book by the author. I only gave the book 3 stars because the author felt the need to address the outcome of all nine family members, plus throw in tidbits about other characters, that felt like he was trying too hard to create a something larger than the title and back cover blurb. However, while I don't usually like a book that ends with everything tied up nearly, because this book had so many characters whose lives were intertwined with Perfect's, it was nice to know what happened to each one. less
