review 1: A wonderfully written story about the struggles of living in a time and town where narrow minded people ruled. The characters in the story draw you in and as the story painfully develops so do they. You never fully understand why nor would any sane person understand why you would change your son into a daughter then back into a son but the maturity and growth as their lives progressed was amazing. There were tough parts of the story that I was shocked went to the deepest parts of each characters thoughts and it really made the book better not brought it down. I have recommended this book to family, friends and coworkers. Daniel Black did an amazing job and I look forward to stumbling on more of his work.
review 2: This was truly a different sort of book for me
... moreto read! The story was written very well! The story is sad and the chances of the the events happening today, are very possible in the world with a tolerance of altered life styles. I was so amazed at the deceit, but should not have been, when it's being done in a closely knitted family structure, where no one wants to say what they think or even acknowledge what they already know to be true. This was a excellent book! I could not put it down, each chapter required you to continue to the end! One of the best book that Daniel Black has done! less
