review 1: I was extremely disappointed in this book. Most of that is because my library had cataloged under "historical fiction." The librarians clearly don't know the difference between historical fiction (i.e. Robots helping the allies win WWII) and fictional history (I.e. this book). This was "I, Robot" (the movie, I haven't read the book) meets "World War Z." It had all of the same conversations, the same interactions, the same scenes, and the same ending. No!!! That's not what I want... It's not what I expected from this book. I wasted an entire week reading this (I had to finish once I started, it's a problem). If you liked "WWZ" and want to read more books that have been ripped off from it, be my guest. If you want a book about Robot wars or something like that... go some pla... morece else. There was no story. There was no plot, no literary devices, there weren't even characters. The whole book is a guy summarizing data he found in the Alaskan tundra. There is a fight here, a fight there, there goes a limb flying through the air... "We won!!!" There you go, I just saved you $8 and however long it takes you to get through a book. Move on.
review 2: I don't read a whole lot of science fiction books these days - I think the last one I read was probably a book by Ray Bradbury or Isaac Asimov years ago - but I have to say I really enjoyed this one. The story is told as a series of vignettes, all recorded by a survivor named Cormac Wallace. It's a scary thought to think that we may be responsible for creating our own successor. The book brings up many interesting points of human nature. Those into technology will surely enjoy it. I'm sure there will be a film version soon. If you're into audio books, the reading by Mike Chamberlain is fantastic. less
