review 1: This book was way better than I had first anticipated. I follow just about all my favorite authors on here and when the same book pops up in all their lists, I know I have to read it. This book is a mix of Fantasy, Dark Fantasy, and Noir. If anyone has every played the game Dishonored, that is kind of how I pictured this world. Polansky has such a way with words I would rank him up there with Mark Lawrence or Joe Abercrombie. These three are true Word Smiths. I really enjoyed his writing style and how he helped care for his anti-hero. I'm so pumped to read the next 2 books. If they are anything like this book, he's got a fan for life!
review 2: Hardbitten fantasy noir with it's main character an edgy, jaded drug dealer, who grew up on the streets and whose tryi
... moreng just hard enough to do the right thing that you want him to succeed. It was a fast read, and if I figured out who did it before the end, that didn't stop me from turning the pages to see when my anti-hero was going to catch up and how he'd react when he did. Definitely a worthy read if you like your stories dark. less
