review 1: A slight letdown. There were a lot of interesting plot points, and I like how he avoided tired cliches in the beginning of the book, but the denouement was a letdown. Even the protagonist was pointing out how one of the villain's actions didn't make too much sense. Essentially, the ending apparently had us all supposing someone was holding the idiot ball. I also question the relevance of some characters to the novel as a whole. It felt like an attempt to put an intermediate book in a trilogy.
review 2: The first one was supposed to be called The Straight Razor Cure but ended up being called Low Town which I think does the first book an injustice. This is the second one and we catch up with Warden in his bar soon after the end of the first book. He gets an assig
... morenment from a retired general to find his granddaughter who is looking to stir up trouble in Low Town. Warden puts out feelers trying to find the girl and when she turns up dead, he starts a chain of dominoes to get to the people he thinks is responsible, but in Low Town you can never dig deep enough to find the final answer and Warden has to scramble to set right what he started. I loved the double and triple crosses and hidden betrayals and you can always count on some violence to liven things up if the story starts to slow. I have the third one, She Who Waits (2014), in my hand right now and will start it immediately. less

Great to get some more back-story on the war and Warden's past with Black House.
