review 1: More of a 4.5 star. This is easily the most strange, unique graphic novel I have ever read. Dash shaw's story AND art are beautiful in their simplicity, and then shocking/gorgeous in their complexity. Characters with stories that seem familiar, but make a left turn when they get too close to cliche. Gorgeous colors. A story set in a future that feels far too close to home until it's jaw-dropping final pages. Not sure this graphic novel is for everyone, but I had a great time reading it. Also, the layout of the pages is different from any other comic you'll read.

... morerk). A super-creepy out-of-towner (Professor Paulie Panther) comes into town looking for an unknown psychedelic plant, and spreads chaos and creepy sexual overtones wherever he goes. It turns out that the plant was spread by an alien agent to exert control over humans--of course! And then the entire town imprints on each others' brains. As you do. less

An awful lot of work for nothing. Not mind-blowing or impressive, just exasperating.
