review 1: I'm sure glad I didn't allow a few strongly negative reviews to sway me from reading this incredible book. Clearly those people were disappointed that there isn't a foolproof way to actually end all illnesses. The journey to significantly reduce illness, however, very likely begins here. It would be far too simplistic to sum up the book with a few bullet points, as many have done. Sure, a lot of the book could be labeled 'common sense.' However, how many common sense guidelines do you consciously or subconsciously ignore on a daily basis? This book lays out the simple, yet persuasive, logic to actually consider a few of them far more closely.I enjoyed the organization of the book, the studies were well-selected, and the suggestions made were soundly explained. At a bare-mi... morenimum, it will change the way I view more than one aspect of my life and for that fact alone, I give the book my highest rating.
review 2: I like the personal responsibility aspect of this book. Dr. Agus stressed prevention over the cure with specific ideas to address a wholeness approach: Begin with a detailed self assessment prior to a physical exam and share that with your doctor. Know you family health history and consider DNA testing. Invest in healthy eating and avoid supplements and vitamins. Take a baby aspirin and talk to your doctor about the overall advantages available through taking statins. Monitor any and all inflammation and remedy them quickly. Very important is to stay on a regular schedule of eating, physical activity and sleep. And, the part I really appreciated was to honor your body's natural healing powers. I didn't give it the fifth star because he included so much scientific study and research that I scanned through to get to the big ideas. less
