review 1: Another good read by DB and another problem to solve by the CC and OS in particular. My jury is out on the slightly extended ending and the use of Murder Mountain, which I always found a little thin, but I'm glad it was blown up. OS still making enemies but that head should have rolled and I would like to see his deadly side surface more frequently to boiling point and not just a gentle simmer. Also good to see the CC extending its members. Thanks DB.
review 2: One of the main challenges for any author that has created great books with their first published works is to maintain that consistency of greatness. With Hell's Corner, Baldacci seemed to put together three or four storylines and mix them up to create one major plot line. Unlike the prior Camel Club b
... moreooks, I found myself struggling to get to the end of this one. From trying to bring back the cold war (though drug cartels no less) to bombing to continued betrayal, it just seems so cliche and I expected so much more from this author. The ending with Chapman, as many have stated before me, seemed to just be over the top and added no value to the book; it seems pretty obvious that we have not seen the last of Chapman but it did not to be written into the story line in this book for that to occur. I have not given up on Baldacci, but I truly hope there is more thought put into his upcoming works. less

Hell's Corner is about the war against terrorists using nano technology. The major new rookie here is Mary Chapman, who, had she not been a Brit, would surely be, at the end of the book, a member of the Camel Club. This book is the 35th that I'm giving a perfect score. About 13 % of my scores are 5/5. I'm fine with that. I'm at a crossroads. I can either read a slew of cozy mysteries, or experiment with historical fiction and supernatural books or Brad Thor books. The reason I may do nothing of the sort is David Baldacci. There are many books of his begging to be read. And he's good, very good indeed. I think I may read most of his books this year. He's that addicting.

An improvement from the last one. The addition of Mary Chapman was a refreshing change from the same old characters. On the other hand, Stone seems noticeably cranky towards his friends -- why start the Camel Club if you are going to rebuff every attempt to help? The story looped around and around, but it was kept interesting, and it seemed realistic to have setbacks. Some of the pieces don't quite fit when all is revealed, but it was a nice conclusion nonetheless.
