review 1: Too long. Great plot, but it took much too long to get moving and get resolved. My first Baldacci read and I'm not anticipating others. Very little complexity to his writing. Short sentences, short chapters, definitely directed toward the masses. Definitely a letdown for me as I had been expecting some really skilled, detailed writing. Oh well. On to my read and hoping for something more riveting. I had no problem putting this one down and coming back to it the next day, which is not a good sign. Not a must read.
review 2: I only recently started reading the works of David Baldacci. A few months ago I read `The Forgotten' and I loved it. This was the first in the `King and Maxwell' series I read. I loved this one also. When I read what I deem to be a bad book, m
... morey reviews are longer as I explain why I was unhappy and disappointed in that novel. With books I enjoy, my reviews are shorter. This one will be short.I found this book enjoyable, fast-moving and entertaining. There were no unnecessary scenes, no slow points. Each chapter moved the story forward. There were numerous plot twists, unexpected turns and several situations where you're not sure who you can trust, if anyone. I found the characters enjoyable, realistic and totally could identify with them.Others have criticized the dialogue for being childish and trite. I must disagree. I, personally, did not find that to be the case. Others have said the plot was not believable. I also disagree with that. Some said that they found it hard to read this book since there are references made to past `King and Maxwell' cases. Yes, there were a few references made but it did not interfere with this story at all.If I HAD to say one bad thing about this book--and this is really a stretch--I would say it started a little slow. I felt that same way about `The Forgotten.' But when I say it starts slow, I'm talking 15-20 pages.I will definitely continue to read David Baldacci novels, both in the K&M series and standalones.A book is supposed to be entertaining, enjoyable, a page turner and keep you interested. This novel meets all of this criteria. 5 stars. less
