review 1: When the previous Christmas holiday left Amanda and Chris reeling from a great loss, Amanda is uncertain what she feels about the upcoming Christmas season. An unexpected invitation comes from her neighbor Emily to visit the Holy Land and Amanda agrees to accompany her. When she meets Miriam at the Wailing Wall the healing process begins, and Amanda discovers she still posseses the ability to hold a child and bring healing to a family. Much is also happening for Chris and his neighbor Frank and finding their way. Chris is sruggling to help revive a struggling company and Frank is awaiting hip surgery. Frank has been contacted by a daughter he thought was lost to addiction years ago. As they each seek God's directions for their lives, healing begins. Sometimes it takes a jo... moreurney to bring us back home.
review 2: Prayers of a Stranger: A Christmas Journey was a pleasant quick read for the Christmas season but not on the same par as the many other books I have read by Davis Bunn. The story focuses on 2 families---Amanda and her husband Chris---and Frank and Emily Wright and their daughter Lisa. Amanda has been struggling emotionally with the stillborn birth of a daughter nearly a year ago and her husband Chris is dealing with a crisis in the company he works. Their lives become entwined with their neighbors, Frank and Emily, through Frank and Amanda's relationship working together at a hospital and when Emily invites Amanda to go on a trip to Israel with her when Frank is unable to go due to health problems. During Amanda and Emily's time in Israel, they both find emotional healing and come back to miracles in their homes. Amanda's husband, Chris, also shows courage and faith in his job situation and in the midst of it portrays Christian values. Frank and Emily are reunited with their estranged daughter and in the end both families find hope and love. Although the plot is interesting, I found that there were too many events coming together at one time to make it realistic---in real life, the problems described in these 2 families are rarely resolved so well in such a short period of time. less
