review 1: After the bookAfter 7 days of being quarantined inside the Stonecliff mall, chaos had broken out after shoppers find out a virus has been released through the vents of the mall. Jobs have been assigned and individuals have been chosen to manage the situation. Senator Ross is in control after making the decision to quarantine the entire mall. Also stuck inside the mall are Marco, Ryan, Shea, Mike, Drew, Lexi, Maddie, and Ginger. Lexi, daughter of Senator Ross, has chosen to stick with her friends Maddie and Ginger under the rule of the mall. The mall provides residents with food, shelter, and supplies. The government is giving food to the mall however, the virus is becoming more effective and entering the mall can become very dangerous. Mike and Drew are good friends... more of Ryan and his older brother and promised to keep Ryan safe. Mike and Drew are older than Ryan and since they are his brother's best friend, they are also like brothers to Ryan. They refuse to be apart of the malls' policies and have made the decision to secretly live in the service halls and garage rooms alone without the mall's help until the whole thing is over. However, the three of them don't have enough power to do this alone. Marco has stolen a card key from officials of the mall that allows him to get into any room anywhere in the mall's service halls. Mike and Drew know this and make a deal with him to stick together as long as this dilemma lasts. Ryan is more shy and laid back and lets Mike take control. However, he knows when Mike is going overboard with his crazy ideas and when to make his own choices. After one day of wandering the mall he meets Shea and they instantly fall in love. They learn to trust each other and help each other until the end. However, to successfully pursue their plan, they need to be on a lookout for security to not be caught. If caught, they can get into some serious trouble. Senator Ross has made strict rules for security guards to follow for they are the ones that are in charge of maintaining peace and appropriate behavior throughout the whole mall. Riots have broken out and chaos has been going on. If they are doing their jobs, why have these things been still going on? Are the security guards doing their jobs correctly? Can they be trusted?I liked this book a lot because it was eventful and suspenseful. There were times when Ryan, Mike, Marco and Shea were very close to being caught by security but somehow, they were able to escape. The book also has thrilling twists that will surprise readers with things they would've never seen coming. I also liked this book because it is written from multiple points of view. Most characters think they are working together however, every one of them have their own thoughts about each other. This makes the book more interesting because you get to see different perspectives of the whole situation. However, one thing I disliked about this book was the inconsistency of point of view.
review 2: I enjoyed this more than the first actually. It was really interesting up to a point. Then, it seemed like it was put on repeat and the same thing kept happening over and over. My biggest complaint are the characters. There was no character development. They were the same from beginning to end and they barely had a back story.I couldn't empathize with any of the characters. Mike and Drew seemed like the same person and I gave up trying to remember who did what. Lexi's character seemed completely irrelevant to the story. Her only interesting quality was that she's the senator's daughter. All she did the entire book was worry about Marco who didn't even like her that much. Ryan was alright for the most part.Shay is..... I do not like her. Sure she was decently developed, but she was extremely unlikable and she frustrated me to no end. Booo!Marco was my favorite. In fact, I would have rather read the entire book from his POV. He seemed to be the only one aware that they are all trapped in a friggen mall with a psycho flu virus in the air. Aside from maybe 2 chapters, the flu wasn't even the main concern. Nobody really cared that they could get it (throwing parties? all the unnecessary kissing? really?). It was mostly about the guys trying not to get caught by security and trying to escape. The girls just moped and fawned over the guys.I only give it 3.5 stars because somehow, I couldn't put it down. It's a love-hate relationship. less
