review 1: I very much enjoyed Covenant. It's my first novel by Dean Crawford. I'd be honest and say I went in with trepidation. Quest novels and thrillers are my 'thing' and of late I've been disappointed with so many of them as they feel flat and the characters are dull. However, like with Scott Mariani's Ben Hope books, Dean Crawford has created something really interesting in the main character, Ethan Warner. The guy is a mess but with a reason and it's his stubbornness and his view of the world, demanding answers, that drives most of Covenant. I finished this just last night and thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it as a good solid read.
review 2: I persevered with this until around the half way point then gave up - life really is too short for this. So,
... morea disappointing book in a genre that has been done to death, from a writer who is trying too hard and is relying on constant action scenes rather than good plotting. There are too many characters doing implausible things, government departments behaving illogically (ok, maybe that IS true to life.). In the end, despite being action packed, it was simply tedious. I couldn't like or admire the main characters, especially the 'hero' who came so loaded with emotional baggage that he depressed me. The plot was riddled with improbabilities and seemed lazy in places. I will pass this novel on to someone else who might have more patience than me and I won't be rushing out to buy the next in the series. less

The X Files meets David Lynn Golemon's The Event Group! Plenty of action, well written and edited.

Change of pace with a thriller, but did have a scifi element. It was ok.
