review 1: Loved it!! This book kept me entertained from cover to cover. It had everything! The main murder plot was mixed with complicated relationships between the characters. As usual for Deborah Crombie's books, there were several possible suspects that looked guilty. It's fun to watch the plot develop and to watch the unraveling of the several love relationships in this book. Deborah Crombie has a gift for describing what the characters are feeling as well as describing what they do. This particular plot takes place mainly in the town of Crystal Palace in England. The author always chooses a real place in England which really makes it interesting. Regretfully, I have now read all 15 of her books, and I will have to wait for book #16 to be released in September. Keep wri... moreting, Deborah Crombie!
review 2: This book was my introduction to the world of James and Kincaid. It took a few chapters for my mind to recognize and settle in to the rhythm of the tale being woven by the weft of the musical interludes throughout the warp of the Crystal Palace history. I found the characters to be approachably human, and the setting effectively real. The story contains the mystery, whereas often a detective novel uses the story as a tool, only to heighten the nonstop intensity of seeking out the villain. Very few series novels inspire me to go back to the beginning – to meet the main characters anew, and follow their progress, one book at a time. This work did exactly that. less
