The Destroyer Trilogy
review 1: Secret of Betrayal by DelSheree Gladden held me spell bound. It is the second book of the Destroyer Trilogy and I cannot wait to read the next installment. I found myself staying up way too late to see if they were going to be successful in freeing the Ciphers. There was a twist or two that I did not see coming. The characters in this book are not your typical teenagers in that they have special powers. Their attitudes however were spot on. I kept waiting on fist fights to break out between Milo and Lance. Then you throw in Brendon and it is surprising that they were all able to work together. Libby does not always make the right decisions, but that is part of being a teenager and she has a lot of tough decisions to make. I give this book 4 stars. I found it to be very en... moretertaining and outside of the mainstream. It was something different to read and now I will not stop until I have read all three books. I like this author’s writing style so much that I have already purchased some of her other books.
review 2: ****Spoilers contained in this review****I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.Secret of Betrayal is the second book in the Destroyer trilogy and follows on pretty much where Inquest finished off.Now Libby (Cassia the Destroyer) knows about the Ciphers and where they are being kept prisoner, she has to come up with a plan to rescue them from the clutches of the Guardians. In this book she manages gain a few more friends to help her with her destiny. Cole - who has a cipher in his family, Casey - who Libby helps when she's attacked by some renegade Ciphers in the Spirit World and most importantly Braden - the Seeker who tried to attack and arrest Milo. With the discovery of a prophecy regarding her destiny Libby has to try and understand just what exactly her path should be.The selling point of this instalment is the relationship between Libby and the three guys in her life - Lance, Milo and Braden. Lance reverts back to being her best friend in this book. He comes to the conclusion that he will never get back together with Libby after his betrayal following her Inquest when he tried to kill her. After giving her his Guardian Oath he was able to prove to Libby that he was mistaken to do what he did and that he believes in her destiny and what she must do in order to make things right in the world. I really loved how close they were able to get without it becoming romantic in any way shape or form. He became the one person she could tell everything to and be a sounding board for the issues she was facing in her relationships with Milo and Braden. They managed to get back to being best friends - which they were before becoming boyfriend/girlfriend - and I think that this was important.Milo seemed to change in this book. Once he had his Inquest performed by Libby and she unlocked his 6 talents he seems to become a different person. In the first book he was totally focused on Libby and helping her and she was always the most important thing in his life. In this book, his focus was completely on the Guardians and how to bring them down and free the Ciphers and Libby seemed to become an afterthought almost. At first I was a bit put out about this change in him but as I continued with the book I saw that this was a necessary development for him to progress the story. Where all Libby wanted was a future with him, where they didn't have to think about destiny etc. and could just concentrate on being together, Milo had other ideas. He couldn't think that far ahead - he was too focused on the mission in hand. Then we have Braden - I was really unsure about this guy to start with. But thanks to DelSheree's writing I really grew to like him over Milo and this took me by surprise. Braden seemed to really understand Libby and their connection was a complication especially where Milo was concerned. It took me quite a while to trust him and was never really certain whether he would betray Libby or not especially after finding out about the prophecy and knowing that one of her friends would betray her. Libby's reaction at the end of the book was very telling and showed the depth of her feelings for him. It will be interesting to see what happens with this in the next book.In the first book I was definitely Team Milo but after this second one I've switched to Team Braden - something that I've never done with a series.I also had a lot of sympathy for Mr Walters at end (I don't want to say too much on this and spoil the ending) and ended up feeling a lot of empathy for him and the situation that they all found themselves in.I am very much looking forward to the conclusion of this series to see what happens with the Ciphers and just exactly what Libby has to do to fulfil her destiny and just what that destiny is. less
