review 1: This was an enjoyable read and more often than not, I found myself at the end of each chapter unable to put my Kindle down and had to keep reading. It has been awhile since I have read a police thriller, and while there were some moments that were a little slow and drawn out, I think Derek Blass has done a great job taking us inside the dynamics of this elite S.W.A.T team and the confrontation between the guys in the good ol' boys network and those discriminated against. The ending definitely left me wanting to read the next in the series.
review 2: Reading the blurb given with this novel, I was expecting one great read. I was disappointed in how this story was delivered, especially when it came to the non stop action that took place in the first half of "Enemy i
... moren Blue". I felt the sequence of action was all just pushed together, to get us to the second half, the courtroom. It took great courage for this author Derek Blass, an attorney as well as a writer, to raise the issue of racial discrimination. You could say he took it up a notch by doing it through a corrupt police department and also within the justice system. Cruz Marquez, is a young Hispanic lawyer who gets a phone call and ends up trying to locate a video made of a rogue cop, sergeant Shaver who murdered a defenseless Hispanic man. Out of the five man SWAT team, their was one good cop, Roman Martinez who once to see justice done and bring this video to light. The action just kept escalating with the chief of the police bringing in his own assassin, who goes about eliminating all involved in the incident and trying to get the video back. To me, this whole scenario of events needed work, it failed to evoke in me any great excitement. The language used here is very strong, hardly any sentences went without a curse or two, or three. Admittedly it lessened of in the second half but still didn't die down completely. There was some Spanish dialogue that lost me and the characters needed to be developed more, which wouldn't bother me if the story was good enough for me to overlook that detail. The second half of this story was conveyed much better. The different look at the lawyers, the prosecutor and the defense lawyer and the the process in selecting a jury. I liked the way Derek takes you inside the mindset of the different people in this story, seeing things from their POV. The ending was impressive, it didn't end like I'd come to expect. For a debut novel, I'd say it was interesting but I wouldn't by any means say it was outstanding. I am going to give it 3 stars mainly because of the issues raised. The delivery of the story could or should have been better. less

Part 1 of 2. Story of a lawless, racist cop. Lots of action, but very violent, so beware.
