review 1: Once again, I have come into the middle of a series -- something I seem to do frequently, whether it be from the library, in this case, or a book that I have picked up at a previously loved book shop. It was just a bit confusing at first, since this is the fifth book (I think) in the Allie Beckstrom series, but after a few chapters, I got involved with the characters and the basic story line to know that I want to go back and find the books that came before this and after, so I can read the entire series. Lots of swords and magic here, and a cast of evil dead that Allie has to figure out how to do away with... my favorite kind of book! It was a good read, and I recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.
review 2: Allie beckstrom might be one of the most infur... moreiating, selfish, oblivious, and ridiculous female protagonist I have ever read about. To this point she has some absolutely nothing to merit any of the respect and applause she is give. The reason she has survived up to this point is because of dumb luck, intelligent friends, and her Dad.She is constantly fighting for the wrong things at the wrong time and seems to be incapable of grasping the big picture. The way she acted with the whole graveyard debacle was just appalling. And she never even apologized to shame or terric. I also found what zayvion apologized for to be bothersome. She did nothing to deserve an apology for that because she really cannot hold her own. The only reason she ever really survives is becauze her Dad is strong enough to push her aside to save her ass. which makes what victor said to her at the end of the book all the more baffling. I am just very confused and hope this is not how the Monk believes a main character should be like. I am seriously hoping that this is a lesson to be learned for Allie and will attribute to her character growth because frankly, I'm not seeing any if that going on and I'm halfway through this series.At this point, I am only reading because I am intrigued by Shame and Terric. less
