review 1: This is another, cute entry in this typically quirky cozy mystery series. It's not the best book in the series, not for Tara who is facing the very serious repurcussions of her actions in the last book, and not for me as a reader because there was too little Nick and because I do happen to think Tara is somewhat guilty of what she's been accused. I also think Tara's marksmanship skills border on the ludicrous but this is a cozy mystery after all, so I guess the point is to not take anything too seriously.
review 2: This is the first I've read of Diane Kelly's work, and I want more! IRS Special Agent Tara Holloway, who has been fired for the way in which she shot down a particularly odious bad guy, is one of the best series heroines I've come across in ages.
... more She's smart, snappy, realistically vulnerable, and uses salty language. A refreshing change from the squeaky-clean, cookie-cutter gaggle of bakery shop owners and chefs that seem to be all the rage these days.Tara's former boss gets Tara another job with the IRS, in the less-than-fun auditing department. There, Tara tries to cool her heels while awaiting her court case for assault. She can't manage to stay out of trouble, though, especially when an old enemy from college appears on her auditing schedule. This was a fun read from beginning to end. Most important, I found myself caring about Tara and rooting for her. I definitely want to read more of this series. less
