review 1: There was nothing in particular wrong with this book in terms of the writing, but the story disappointed me. I didn't like how quickly Miranda forgave David, particularly as it appears, given David's continuing feelings, that this is likely to happen again. Also the offer she made to Deven towards the end of the book (that he said they would discuss in the future) about monthly meetings just made me cross and made her look weak and pathetic. David's behaviour just pissed me off. If he cared for Miranda he wouldn't have allowed it to happen (sorry trying to avoid giving too much away) and if it happened after only 3 months of marriage/bonding what's he going to be like after a few years? David's character just left me feeling cold and that he didn't care as deeply for Miran... moreda as he claimed and that she was settling for less than she should have. That said I know life isn't always a bed of roses and sad things happen, I know for both of their well being they have to remain together. I'm not necessarily annoyed that he did what he did - shit happens, just disappointed over issues not being resolved and Miranda tolerating the unacceptable and offering to continue the situation. I know that not all books have to have a "happily ever after", this one seemed to have an "I'll make do ever after" feel to it. The action part of the story was good and kept me gripped, but the emotional side, for me, was disheartening. So if the romance side/HEA bit is not too important to you I think you'll enjoy this book. If you want a fulfilling romance this may not be for you. After all I've said, I probably will read the next book in the hopes that some of the issues are resolved, but if they continue I'll probably give any future ones a miss.
review 2: Book 2 of the Shadow World.I read the first book in this series and immediately downloaded the second from my libraries online catalog. So far I'm very happy with it. Enough to go ahead and reserve the next three in the series. This book set in Austin Texas and featuring the vampires that inhabit the city's "shadow world" is a good follow up to the 1st. Now that the main characters are introduced and set up the author is bringing in the secondary characters. Some who bring with them very surprising plot twists. I do think there is some obvious set up for further plot points being set up in this book as there are some random lines and actions that are very obvious but not explained. (having read the second I now recognize some of those same moments in the 1st book that got explained here). Looking forward to the next one. less

Ugh. This book is too much for my conventional little mortal brain.

Disappointed with how he cheated and she didn't do much about it.
