review 1: Within the Shadows was definitely a page turner from beginning to end and it was a book that left me with mixed feelings. It started out good and then all hell breaks loose and it goes from calm to chaos until the very end of the book. Giselle gets a video of her boyfriend Marc of four years having sex with Evie who is basically her enemy. Alex who has been her best friend since the age of twelve has always been there to comfort her and during her breakup with Marc he will be there to catch her when she falls but Alex is no longer the boy she knew. Alex reveals what he truly is and Giselle must make the choice to join him or die. Giselle joins Alex but she hates him for leaving her with no choice but to go along with things. Alex turns Giselle into a hybrid basically, half... more vampire – half human and takes her to away from everything she once knew, to the other side of the world. Giselle then marries Alex only to find out she is still in love with Marc and Alex only wants her only to carry his child. Giselle sleeps with her husband Alex who abuses her, Marc while she’s married to Alex and even Alex’s dad. She ends up pregnant and has a mental discussion of who’s the baby’s daddy. Alex and his stepmother Atarah wants the baby then he plans to end Giselle, Marc wants her to come back to him, Leonid fell in love with her and is trying to protect her from Alex, Atarah, and the shadows who want Giselle her to be their Queen. This book is a hot mess!!! It will have you saying what in the hell just happened and no way in hell at the same time. I don’t know if I will read the next book because even though it was a page turner and it wasn’t a bad read, it was a bit much for me. I can honestly say I have never read a vampire book anything like this and I read a lot of vampire books. If you love paranormal and are looking for a read like no other, this is definitely the book for you.
review 2: Over the past two days, I read Ms. Lynch's Within the Shadows, and I must say I was not disappointed. Going into this read, I knew the book had large shoes to fill from my last read...and I was pleased. This tale gripped me from the beginning, stopping me from dishes, laundry, and disregarding daily household duties. Lynch's world is one that will immediately suck you in and I loved the "I wonder what will happen next?" factor the author maintains throughout the storyline. Just enough carrot was dangled to keep my mouth watering for what was to come. The characters are vivid, the plot unique, and the character development believable. I found myself smiling with characters, wanting to cry with others, and wanting to slap others...hard. I applaud Ms. Lynch's ability to breathe life into her characters and make it appear to be an effortless and fluid task - a difficult feat. I know I'll be picking up other stories to read...I NEED to know what happens next! Bravo on a job well done. This reader's appetite has been satisfied...for now. A+ less
