review 1: This was an entertaining read overall. I enjoyed how, what with the over-saturation of the historical fiction markets with books about the Tudors, this book used the drama and intrigue of the Tudor court as background noise to the struggles of one family. The characterization was a bit light; there was so much potential for the author to really dig deep psychologically with some of the characters, yet these opportunities were sadly passed up. Also, pretty much every tragedy that could strike this family did, which became a bit unbelievable after a while.
review 2: Very easy to read, and at the start I quite liked the characters, although I found myself questioning some of the details. However, by about half way through, the plot starts to twist in a most uncon
... morevincing way, so that by the end I was really willing it to end. I don't think I would read it again, though it might do for a quick holiday read. I had just read 'Bring up the bodies' by Hilary Mantel, which was always going to be a hard act to follow. less

I am not sure of the connection to the first two books. Not a bad read though.

I don't know I found it a bit disturbing. Too twisted.
