review 1: Excellent book! Mary Howard had a tough life and she is portrayed as a very emotional lady in this novel. It gave an excellent insight into court life during the infamous King Henry the 8th's reign and life as a lady-in-waiting to his very a few of his very different Queens. It was very well researched and such an interesting, addictive read. I did get lost in in a few places; the author flung out many names of significant people during that time, too many to keep up with. None the less this novel highlights an unbelievable, untold story.
review 2: Nice to read a historical fiction novel set in Tudor times, but not a 'bodice ripper' and for once about someone who really hasn't been much focused on before. Despite the Howard family being such a key part of the s... moreocial and political times, and so influential and involved in the many plots, scandals and historic moments of Henry VIII's reign, you rarely get a book written from the perspective of one of their family. less
