review 1: I always enjoy Dorothy Koomson's books - they are never as they seem. I found this one not quite as easy to read as some others, and I wasn't racing to finish it. It is however, well written and you do want to know all the ins and outs. The "whodunnit" keeps you guessing and the characters are well rounded. I was never sure what I felt about Tami and the insights offered gradually into her perfect marriage show how you can never know what goes on in people's lives. Many twists and turns, red herrings and coincidental stories, but all in all a good read.
review 2: I've read a few of Koomson's books over the past few years and I really have enjoyed them on the whole (The Ice Cream Girls would have to be her best novel IMO). But this was a disappointment for me. H
... moreowever at the start of this novel, I was gripped once again to the plot and the double narrative style Koomson created with the characters of Tamia and Beatrix and getting the background and information that we need as readers that sets up the rest of the book. The first half of the book was what we all love about Koomson, is believable and sets up the plot nicely. But I do feel that towards the middle of the novel, it became predictable and I truly felt that Koomson was just throwing as many twists and turns as possible without choosing one and two and choosing to develop them further. But despite that, it still kept me glued to finishing the novel as I wanted to see how things would develop and conclude within the novel. But I felt very unsatisfied with the way Koomson has wrote this novel. In places it was very difficult to read and frustrating when the plot was developing and wonder what did crime did Scott commit especially. So overall, it wasn't a great read, but not a bad read either. I felt that the potential was there for Koomson to deliver but sadly she hasn't delivered enough. less
