review 1: Dear god that woman writes depressing books!! Depressing in the sense that she puts her characters through hell. Libby, married to Jack, all lovely and happy. She is then involved in a car crash whish really unsettles her. She then finds Eve's (her husband s ex wife) diary. Eve has been the shadow creeping around Libby and Jack 's marriage from the start. Eve s diary reveal the life she d had before she met Jack and much more awful details. Emotional rollercoaster before getting to the happy ending!
review 2: I was a little leery about reading this book because of it’s length, but it was a fast read which I gobbled in only two days. It’s a combination between an interracial romance and a suspense—but outside of the categories, it’s simply good writing.
... moreThe pacing was excellent, the twists, turns, and reveals kept me glued to the pages, and I read the entire thing with a heavy weight in the pit of my stomach because I was so nervous about the outcome. Like I said, good writing. The story is about Libby, her husband Jack, and his dead wife, Eve. Although Eve is dead, she has a prominent role in the story after Libby discovers her diaries, and it’s obvious Jack cared deeply for her and perhaps even still loves her. Toss in Eve’s death under “suspicious” circumstances and a suspicious cop out to get her man, and you’ll be turning pages quickly to discover what in the world happened to Eve and whether or not the accident Libby experienced was really an accident after all.My sister and I had recently discussed the evils of poverty and how much crime could be eliminated once the desperation that results from poverty disappears. Enter this story, with it’s sad storyline about Eve and the decisions she made to survive. So much happens to this young woman, and then to finally find her knight in shining armor—Jack—and to have her HEA destroyed because of her past was heartwrenching. This was such great storytelling, that I look forward to reading more books by Ms. Koomson. And although I was sad for Eve, I was happy with the ending. less
