review 1: Another interactive book, this one one of the official "ology" books. This one has a different feel from the others. Here, a scientist, Alan Gray, is investigating aliens on Earth. The reader is invited to become a member of S.P.A.C.E. (the Society for the Promotion of Alien Contact with Earth), in preparation for a sinister alien invasion by a highly destructive species. There also are mind games scattered throughout- tough, too! I am not well versed in alien movies and novels, so I have a feeling a lot of the references and "inside jokes" sailed over my head. Still, it's a nice read, with the descriptions of various aliens and their personalities, as well as information about the galaxy and the solar system.
review 2: Have you ever seen kids fight over a book... more? I mean, fight to actually read it? Like yelling and grabbing and running away to hide with the book kind of fighting? There might have even been some pinching in there too. I have to say I secretly felt a bit giddy over this fighting. Fighting over a book? Really? That's awesome!Alienology is just fun. There are fun pictures, flaps to lift, stories to read and secrets to be found. You can learn the universal gestures for aliens and be ready to communicate. Well, at least to say hello, thank you and goodbye. You will learn about alien brains and the evolution of eyeballs. There are things to touch, but be careful of the S.L.I.M.E! (Surface-Living Intelligent Multiplying Endolith) It will consume you in order to grow! There are charts to compare different species of aliens, and it tells you which are friendly and which are not. Which is very important. Do you want to know how big aliens are? How long they live? Where they live? What sort of weapons they use? It's all in this book. The nice people at Candlewick Press sent this book over to review. We loved this book at our house. After the fighting, that is. Each of my kids looked through it and then at the dinner table we all looked through it together. We laughed and talked and had a great time. Those are the moments that make life great, I think. A book that can do that should be labeled "fantabulous"! less
