review 1: This is it. I finished the Ruby Oliver series. I used to think I hadn't finished reading the series because I didn't have time, or the library didn't have it, or I was too lazy to find it. But now I realize that I probably had this Subconscious Michelle begging me not to finish the series, to spare me this hollow feeling inside that happens when you finish a series you really really really like FOUR BOOKS OF BEAUTIFUL, WONDERFUL CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND CUTE ROMANCE AND GORGEOUS DIALOGUE AND SO. MANY. BOYS. Thank you, Ruby, from 13-year-old Michelle and 17-year-old Michelle and all the Michelles in between
review 2: I love Ruby Oliver. My new favourite word is hyperverbal. Let's face it,whether we like to admit it or not, we all feel like Ruby most days. Wanti
... moreng to tell our friends/family/significant other how we really feel, how we think they should feel, and being lost to do just that. As if we might as well write our innermost thoughts in a letter to our favourite zoo animals similarly trapped behind a fence for everyone to watch and judge. I love what Ruby stands for, her utter abandonment of the "supposed to." Whether that be supposed to use appropriate psychological terms or supposed to know what college she wants to go to or supposed to make kitschy non-deliciousness marshmallow treats for HER bake sale. And, most especially, to follow her own path, listen to her own heart and still SPOILER ALERT!!!! on her own terms find her "real live boyfriend." Rock on Ruby Oliver! less
