I am totally hooked :D
review 2: 2.5Why are librarians still being represented as wrinkled, old, fashionless, grum
... morepy crones? Yeah, I realize that the librarian is a very very small aspect of this book, but still it rankles to have one depicted as wholly unhelpful to someone's information needs and playing the role of book guardian rather than the informational door openers we really are.Ok, back to the book. Unraveling Isobel is about a young girl whose mother re-marries a guy she can't stand and moves her out of her well known and loved neighborhood in Seattle to a small island, Naime, off the coast. Along with her unbearably standoffish, but of course immensely desirable, step-brother Nathaniel. The very night they move into the overwhelming estate of her rich new family, strange things begin to happen to Isobel. She has nightmares involving a little girl, items are moved around the room by unseen hands, and new things appear unbidden in her room. There is a mystery surrounding the house, which the local kids say is haunted, and the deaths of Dick's first wife and Nate's young sister, whom the local kids say were murdered. Isobel decides she's the one to put all the puzzle pieces in place and put all spirits to rest. The book is at points a little creepy, but nothing that would keep one up at night. The romance is a bit well...silly to me, and a bit unbelievable. I don't really care about the whole step siblings thing, since they're not related and only met recently, so I don't see why that would be a big deal. And the ending sequence was a bit unexciting for being the climax of the entire book. Also, the covers to many of these books show the two main characters (always sadly a heterosexual pair) in romantic embrace, but with their heads cut off. Unfortunately I find the covers all too apt, the books could be interchangeable the people anyone, heads cut off and placed on different looking bodies, it's all the same. less
