review 1: Suffice to say this book was much like it's predecessor, full of promise but failing to fulfill. The plot was mediocre at best-too drawn out and tedious. Diccan was ultimately a grievously disappointing character. His actions were despicable and it still astonished me how Grace could-in a single moment absolve him of his guilt. It didn't matter the noble reasons he had behind what pain he'd inflicted upon Grace. This was also an issue I had with the first book in the series-when it came time for the climax between the couple it was too late in the story to be worth much. And also very unfulfilling. Kate, sometimes, was an irritating character as she kept popping up everywhere. At times it'd felt as though she were the main heroine of the novel instead of Grace. But all in ... moreall, Kate's story should be interesting to read about. She seems to have quite a few secrets. Speaking of secrets, the entire plot from book one about the spies and treason doesn't seem like it's ever going to end. There is no satisfaction by the end of the novel. And I have to admit if this plot doesn't make any more sense in the third book then it does in the first book then that is the final straw. I've been spending too long puzzling over what the entire situation is. It's poorly executed and inexcusably frustrating. There is no ah-hah moment where the plot thickens. The plot is just as confusing as Jack's unfortunate amnesia is. Perhaps even more so. Anyone reading Never a Gentleman should read Barely a Lady first because there is no way they'd be able to jumble through this mess without at least a sense of what's going on.
review 2: One of my favorites, a keeper.Grace Fairchild, beautiful on the inside, plain on the outside, daughter of the regiment finds herself caught in a scandal. Not an accident, but calculated to smear the reputation ofDiccan Hilliard. He's a spy and Grace has been added to his life. Despite their accidental meeting, they form a passion for each other.Lots of twists and turns in the plot, Grace is a terrific character, full of pluck. Inspirational. less
