review 1: Once a Rake by Eileen Dreyer is a classic historical fiction. it starts out with the Scotsman Ian Ferguson being framed for the attempted assassination of the Royal Duke. He's knocked into the sea and shot at. when he finds land he wanders and ends up on the estate of Lady Sarah Clarke. She tends his wound who with George hide Ian. When he makes his escape, he kidnaps Sarah. The adventures continue as Ian tries to prove his innocence to his close friends and the royal court. This is a first read win and I have given my honest opinions.
review 2: This was bit misleading as it did not seem to continue the previous three books, but once I checked Ms. Dreyer's website I was back on track. Ian is the one being hunted as a possible assassin of Wellington. Sarah fi... morends him when, wounded, he hides on her land. Both are very strong people who have suffered a lot and it is that kindred spirit they find in each other as it takes weeks for him to recover. They become friends, and then something more develops. It is with great courage that they must continue with their lives separately, even with the love between them. Highly emotional read and excellent writing. less
