review 1: I chose this book for my Picture Book Soak. This is a book that I cannot wait to read to my students. This book has a great cover picture and the title really spoke to me when I picked it out. This book is about a young girl who dances, prances, twirls, dances, wrestles, and is brave when no one is watching her, but when everyone is watching, she hides and pretends she is not there. The girl then introduces her best friend, who is also shy, and she talks about how she can be herself around her best friend. They go to the zoo, have fun, dance, act silly, and they are themselves. They do not care who is watching them. I think this is a great book to teach children about self confidence and being comfortable in their own skin. It’s a great book, it is easy to understand, an... mored it has great pictures and colors all throughout.
review 2: A young girl appears to be showing her feelings in an honest way showing all the fun things she does “when no one is watching”, yet shrinking back into her shell, becoming as invisible as possible when others are around. It’s a different look at a child who really seems so shy and has such a challenge in a group, but when it’s just one good friend, that’s a different story! The illustrations show off the girl in a beautiful way, with actions appropriate to whether being watched, or not. It’s such an interesting story and I imagine will connect to some children very much. less
