review 1: The Best Story starts off with a girl who sees a contest at her local library. An author Anne Miles is having a contest of who ever has the best story get to go on a roller coaster ride with the Author, who actually happens to be her favorite author. She is so excited to start her story, that as soon as she get home she starts brain storming! At first she can't really come up with anything so asks her parents for some help, they give her so many great ideas. She starts writing but then gets stuck and ask her little brother, who says "The best stories," said my brother Tim, "have lots of action." So then she writes more with a whole bunch of action. Her sister then says there isn't any love or romance. By the end of asking her family. She has this crazy action packed love s... moretory. But something is missing, so then she starts over and writes a whole new story. Eileen Spinelli did a great job of keeping the attention of the reader. After hearing each input of her family members I actually wanted to see what the story would actually sound like all put together. It illustrations by Anne Wilsdorf were fantastic, she did a great job with each page. I loved how there was an illustration for each time she asked her siblings or her parents about something. There was a drawing for every story someone told.
review 2: The Best Story is about a little girl who finds out about a story writing contest and the winner get to ride a roller coaster with what happens to be her favorite author. She looks to her family for help in deciding what to write her story about. She learns that the best story you write has to be your own and has to come form your heart. Many young readers and writers can relate to this story because many people have trouble deciding what to write about. The characters in this book are believable in the real world because they are students like many readers with be with families that support their learning. This story is accompanied by quirky illustrations that support the text by allowing readers to follow along with what the characters are thinking. What struck me the most is how much a reader can get out of this book. I can still relate to this book as a students because I always have a though time reminding myself that my writing will be good if I write from the heart and stay original. This books sends a message that you just need to get through the initial struggle of writing and it can have great rewards. I would use this book in the classroom as a read aloud prior to a free writing assignment. This book could also be used to introduce different kinds of writing, such as adventure, that the girl brainstorms about. The girl learns about the writing contest in the library so this would be a very good book to use to present a contest to a group of students. less
