The Matchmaker
review 1: I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads to review.Matchpoint by author Elise Sax as a delightfully entertaining read much in the spirit of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books. Gladie Burger has a crazy family, crazy friends, crazy town, crazy romantic interests, and oh, a crazy killer after her as well. Gladie is a matchmaker by day and an accidental sleuth by night. She is trying to find a match for the receptionist at the dental office. She is terrified of all things medical put finds herself in the dentist chair after she can avoid her cavities no longer. She wakes up in a murder scene. In between finding a match for the receptionist she must find the killer before the killer finds her again. Love interest Holden moves hot and cold with Gladie and... more she can't figure out where they stand or what he does for a living. Police Chief Spencer is a player and is currently camped out in Gladie's room to hide from his jilted women. Both men irritate her and fascinate her equally and loads of toe-curling kisses are involved. This book has laugh out loud moments of fun both with Gladie trying and failing to find a match and in her investigation of the murder. I plan to go back and read the first book in this series.
review 2: No sophomore slump for Elise Sax! This follow-up is just as fresh and funny as her debut An Affair To Dismember. The series features Gladie Burger, budding professional matchmaker under her grandmother's tutelage. While Gladie struggles with learning the love biz, she's also dealing with the attentions of not one, but two sexy guys (her mysterious next door neighbor and the town's randy police chief). As if that weren't enough, she finds herself literally in the middle of a murder scene - during a dreaded visit to the dentist's office. How Gladie juggles all of these challenges - while trying to stay out of danger along the way - makes for a hilarious read. For those who like their mysteries on the lighter side with a generous heaping of humor and romance (a la Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series), look no further than Elise Sax's Matchmaker series. My only disappointment is the author's intention to end the series as a trilogy. Let's hope she changes her mind. less
