review 1: Dunno what to say about this book. It is a mystery that I liked reading after a long time, good old fashioned cozy, charming. A good book to cozy up with a cup a good tea, a few cushions. This is also the only Penny Brannigan book I read and I will try to get my hands on the rest.My one star rating is for the content. I found the book racist! yes! I know it is not a serious book pointing fingers at races, I understand those books but this one I did not. Calling someone 'foreigner', making them villains, sounded silly. I know many people are involved in marijuana production and they belong to certain countries but it sure would have looked better if there was at least one person from a different race helping the police, or was made to feel accepted. I know it is just a stor... morey but just making a bunch of Asian people villains, murderers with garish color choices made put me off!
review 2: Penny Brannigan and her friend Victoria have their new spa and nail salon up and running smoothly. A Vietnamese family arrives in town and opens a new nail and tanning salon. Penny isn't too worried about the competition but looks for new ways to keep her old customers. One of the new innovations that Penny tries is a snake skin manicure. She gives one to the daughter of the new salon owner but the girl is found murdered shortly thereafter. Penny is curious and is looking into the mystery but there are also dogs going missing and the teenage brother of her manicurist suddenly has cash and the ability to buy all the electronics he covets. She thinks that the new family is town is up to something that isn't quite right but isn't sure what. Her romance with Gareth is progressing slowly and he has warned her to stay out of the mystery solving business but she can't quite let it go. I love this series and the plot and story move right along to a nail biting conclusion. less

Very simplistic murder mystery. At least they had English accents.
