review 1: This is the first of a series of short stories featuring John Charming as he goes about the business of being a Knight, even if he isn't one anymore. He finds people in distress, being preyed upon by supernatural creatures and he can't help but step in. All of them deal with different creatures I've never heard about so the mythology is extremely interesting - are they made up, I wonder?I don't know if to recommend these or not to people who haven't read the 1st book in the Pax Arcana. They are so short, that you don't get much out of Charming, except that he can take care of supernatural creatures. I don't know why, but I didn't get that impression in the first book, so I'm glad to be disabused.
review 2: In "Charmed I'm Sure" John Charming is just passing thr... moreough when he stops to help a naked man on the side of the road. The last thing the man remembers is being back in Pennsylvania post Y2K. John instantly suspects there's something magical to blame and goes on the hunt for the thing that might be responsible. As an intro to the world and the character, "Charmed" is a really fun tale. Whether you read this first or after reading Charming, it gives you a chance to see even more of the great detail James has put into the setting and the mythology that supports his world building. less
