review 1: The first book in this series was really hard to get through due to all of the character introductions. I only got through it, in fact, because I was listening to it in the car. Throughout the first book I was more intrigued by Jemma and Elijah than the actual hero and heroin so I was really excited about this book which finally finishes up the story that's been slowly building for the last 4. It is still drawn out, and had more chess than I ever imagined I'd have to listen to/read, but I'm glad I was able to make it through the first book and on through to this one. I'm equally excited to see how Villiers' (pronounced Veeyay in the audio versions) story turns out.
review 2: I was so delighted to read this. About half way through, I decided that the hero, Elija
... moreh, looks like a younger Daniel Craig (since Elijah wears his hair very short). That visualization just made this novel even better. I'm coming to like Eloisa James' work. She gets more raw (i.e. explicit) in the interactions between the couple in this book than a few others I've read of her work. The heroine and hero are evenly matched as being witty, engaging, and yes, very frustrating with how they draw out the tension. Elijah is probably one of my all-time favorite romantic heroes. The background story of Villers is also very engaging. I look forward to finding out what he does about his predicament in the next book! less
