review 1: Completely enjoyed this one. As it turns out, I have a sweet spot for a gritty first person narrative. Garcia reminds me of Glen Duncan (whom I also enjoy as a somewhat guilty pleasure.) Do not read this book if you are somewhat squeamish. I say 'somewhat' because no passage in it is truly a detailed surgical procedure in nature but if you allow yourself to be immersed in Remy's stream of consciousness it can be pretty grossly imagined. It had me chuckling and nail biting at times. I also liked the movie. I know, I know - there's some kind of law against enjoying both forms of story medium but I did. There you have it. Enjoy!
review 2: Fortunately for me, I didn't see the trailer for "Repo Men" until I was about halfway through the book. In all honesty
... more, I probably would have put it down if I'd seen the attempted adaptation first. While "The Repossession Mambo" is not a groundbreaking piece of work, Garcia's style is consistent and enjoyable enough to keep most readers entertained. The created world is believable, rarely breaking continuity with it's own universal laws.A fun read bordering on the moralistic side, probably good for fans of Glen Duncan. less
