review 1: Mortal coils tells the tale of Fiona and Eliot Post, 15 year old twins who discover they are not who they thought they were. Full of snarky "intellectual" put downs and footnotes about the Post family mythologies it really should have spoken to me more. But i just had a "Meh" feeling throughout. There was some interesting personification of "Immortals" and "Infernals" but it just didn't hit the mark for me. Won't read the next one...
review 2: Decent premise and action scenes, but so mind-numbingly slow that I didn't care what happened to any of them -- I just wanted it to END. Character development was only fair, and I found myself wanting to yell at many of them because they weren't behaving true to, well, character. The plot is an odd mix of mythology and Ch... moreristianity, which could make for a rather interesting story, but comes across as downright depressing, hopeless, and exhausting in this 606-pg quagmire. It wasn't simply the length that's the issue, but the pace of the story itself that's to blame. less
