review 1: Intriguing look at the vision from two undeniably influential, contemporary minds. Schmidt and Cohen definitely come across as optimists, which is unsurprising. The advancements and accomplishments of Google over the past decade cannot be discounted, and so also the visions of the authors must be respected. I found many of the future predictions quite bold, sometimes dubious. The thing about the future is that it cannot be disproved, as it does not yet exist. Therefore to call much of this book conjecture should not be seen as a criticism. Where I valued their insights most, was in dealing with the present and the immediate future. The responses to Wikileaks, the topic of net neutrality, and the somewhat dystopian but, for reasons explained very thoroughly, very lik... moreely phenomenon of Internet "Balkanisation" are very real and immediate topics that should demand global attention. After reading this book you should come away with a deeper appreciation for the technological trends currently in play, and perhaps be better placed to come up with your own ideas for what may be coming.
review 2: Schmidt and Cohen thoroughly discuss the impacts that technology will have on nations, people, and the future. The examples given were eye-opening, interesting and showed the extent that the co-authors conducted their research. The most important take away I experienced was the importance that people understand that the future of technology is mostly up to the people. I think this is a must read for anyone interested in the macro impact of technology on the world. less
