review 1: I'm a big Erin McCarthy fan, especially her "Fast Track" series, so I thought I'd give a couple of her other books a try.Tiffany's just-plain-mean grandmother has thrown her out, but luckily she lands a housesitting job for Danny Gold, rich record producer. It's a pretty sweet gig -- she lives in a big beautiful house by herself, except for the couple of weeks each year that Danny visits. But..Danny shows up unexpectedly, and Tiffany's rather surprised that she likes having him to keep her company -- but she knows that she's not in Danny's league...he'd never be interested in someone like her.But Danny is interested. And as time passes their relationship grows until they realize how deeply they care for each other. However, Tiffany discovers some upsetting news -- Danny's... more not actually divorced from his wife -- and realizes that she can't continue their affair, and leaves him, determined to make her own way in the world. Both Tiffany and Danny are pretty cardboard. Tiffany's sort of Cinderella, and Danny's sort of Prince Charming, so there's nothing very complex or layered about either of them. But what annoyed me about Tiffany was how she left Danny. When she decides to leave after finding out about his wife, she just disappears..she doesn't tell him anything, she won't answer his calls or his texts, and just vanishes. That's such an childish and immature reaction. While I understand she's upset about the divorce not being finalized, surely she could have emailed or left a voice mail explaining. And then months later, Danny's ready to forgive and forget? Wow....he's a good guy! Also contributing to the 2 stars were plot holes and contradictions that were annoying. So, not one of McCarthy's better efforts, but I'm still a fan and look forward to reading more of her work.
review 2: I enjoyed this book much more than the previous books in the series because maybe I feel like I can relate to Tiffany more than Cat. I was really worried about the age difference at he beginning and I was trying to decide whether it was morally right in my mind but through the writing Erin described their connection so beautifully that you don't doubt Devin's love for Tiffany. Devin seems to agree with me:“I’ve been working really hard at it because it’s really, really inappropriate for me to find you attractive. But I do. Does that make me a fucking pervert or what? You’re too young.”I'm glad that be acknowledged it because a selfish man wouldn't of cared. I like how they didn't go into the physical stage of their relationship straight away. I can understand Cats disapproval of Devin but she was very judgemental when she didn't know the full story. “I’m not ok with this. He’s a Chester the Molester.”A bit harsh don't you think? Then at the end Cats like I knew you would be together, yeah right. His ex wife is a complete psycho. That Kadence doll was freaking me out so damn much, like burn the damn thing. It was everywhere!! I did cry in this bit when she comes home with her Grans ashes and she drops the box and some come out: “I glanced up at him, vision blurred with tears. “It’s my grandmother’s ashes.”I was in tears. I know what it feels like to loose a grandparent, its terrible and if you were to go home to find total snobby strangers at your home partying, that is pretty bad. There are so many more good parts so you'll just have to read the book to find out more but its definitely worth your time. less
