Freakn' Shifters
review 1: This is one half of the story about a pair of sisters, the other story being Jungle Freakn’ Bride, and in my opinion it is this story of the sisters that should be read 1st.This is the story of Ruth, a chunky, tall, blond female, who also happens to be a female. Something that could pose a problem for one of the shifter males it seems fate has decreed will be her mates. Those mates are Kendrick, one of Naomi from book 1s brothers, and Joel, Kendirck’s best mate and the unhappy result from a shifter/human pairing which resulted in his mother walking away never having known her husband was a shifter. I loved Ruth and her character has got to be one of the best in the series, with her sister from the next book running a close second. She has no idea how attractive she is ... moreto the two hunks and this leads to some fantastic dialogue and some blue balls for the two shifters involved.Kendrick, after initially being an ass, has a lot of making up to do, but with his poor 1st impression he made coupled with Ruth’s low self-esteem their journey to a HEA mating will not be an easy one. Throw in a tribe of shifters who steal women to be their brides, creepy crawlies and a jungle and you’re in for a wild ride. Please note that I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
review 2: This was a very good story. I enjoyed it a lot and it was a great continuation of the series.Ruth was a great leading lady. She's beautiful, tall and curvy (as well as smart and sweet) but tends to be treated badly by men and has very low self esteem. When her sister is kidnapped she goes to the jungle to try to find her. She ends up on the expedition that Kendrick and Joel are on but isn't welcomed by them at the beginning.Kendrick and Joel show up for the expedition and find a human woman there. They both kind of freak because they sense she's their mate and nether are thrilled at first. Kendrick because he doesn't normally like curvy women (although he comes around relatively quickly) and also because he's resistant on sharing his mate, even with his best friend. Joel is freaked to find him mate is human because his mother was human. His mother didn't achieve a mating bond with his father. She left and and his father was a broken man afterwards. Joel didn't want the same thing to happen to him so he feared a human mate thinking another shifter (that could feel the mating bond) would be safer.Because of their resistance they're both kind of jerks to Ruth and she doesn't take that well. Once Kendrick and Joel come to terms with their resistance to Ruth as a mate they quickly realize their attitude toward her has hurt their cause once they try to win her. It doesn't help that she's been raised a "good girl" and the idea of having both men is rather inconceivable to her. Even as she deals with the morally of it, she doesn't see any way that these two hunks would be interested in her long term. Ruth thinks they only want her because she's the only woman on the expedition (or maybe as a bet). While Kendrick and Joel are trying to convince Ruth they want her, there's the expedition going on looking for Ruth's sister and couple other women. They run in to some issues which enable her to find her sister but Ruth, Kendrick and Joel are put in danger of being split up. While issues are being overcome, she finds out Kendrick and Joel shift in to wolves but she's ok with it. They get back to civilization but once the real world impinges, Ruth starts doubting Kendrick and Joel want anything long term and so she leaves to go home. alone. I enjoyed the ending a lot. Loved how it got resolved once Kendrick and Joel got their heads out of their butts (apparently the mating fever tends to make people suffer from bouts of relationship dumbassedness...maybe the lack of blood flow?).This was a very enjoyable story. I think it might be the best of the series...of course there's still Stu left that hasn't found a mate and the end of this book tends to hint at Stu having his own story. When it comes out it will definitely be an auto-buy for me. I'd recommend this story. :D less
