review 1: Back to the Kate Scarpetta of earlier novels, the book is heavy with scientific and procedural detail of a medical examiner. The creepy serial killer emphasis is still there, as in earlier Scarpetta stories, but somehow this one seems a little fresher than the last several. I am always amazed that a first person, present tense voice can capture me so well. The story takes place within a day or two, yet Cornwell fleshes it out to 495 pages. I couldn't put it down. This book is so large I kind of regret not getting it as a Kindle book; it would have made falling asleep with it easier on my wrists.
review 2: It took me two tries before I finished this book which is unusual for me because usually I can't wait to get my hands on any Scarpetta novel that Cornwell
... more has written. The pacing is off and it is way too long. I felt a little judicious editing might have gone a long way to improving this novel. It was also very dark and creepy. I don't mind that generally. But it didn't work for me here. less
