review 1: This is the first Felix Francis novel I've read, and I liked how much it sounded just like a Dick Francis novel: in terms of the POV, the hero, the problem, and the setting. At the same time, it felt very modern, which I also liked. However, this is one of those mysteries in which the villain is barely present as a character. As a reader, I don't enjoy this because it offers me no chance whatsoever to determine "who dun it." And the ending is so abrupt that I didn't find it satisfying. There is no denouement whatsoever.
review 2: I started reading Dick Francis over twenty years ago and have always been entertained by his stories. When his son started writing with him, you could not discern any change in the quality of the stories. Felix Francis carries on his
... morefather's tradition of a story well-told. The plots are not overly complicated and make for an easy and enjoyable read. The newest release, Damage, was eagerly anticipated and I was not disappointed. While I am not a horse racing fan, Francis reveals some aspect of the sport in each book that educates the reader without inundating him with facts. In this case it was the workings of the British Horseracing Authority and their investigative role. Overall a good read and one I would recommend. less

Though I liked this book, it wasn't one of his best. I would probably give it a 3.5.

Another enjoyable, but not exceptional, "Dick Francis" story.
