review 1: The description sounded intriguing and I was excited to start reading it. Sadly, the excitement didn't last as I could not even make it through the first l-o-n-g chapter. And I tried. I tried hard. I started the book three times, could not get into it, and finally gave up... So my review is based on the first half of the first chapter. Great premise, boring execution with way too much needless back-story on what seemed like too many characters. I do not recommend.
review 2: This is the first novel I have read by the author and it will definitely not be my last. Shortly, the novel tells the story of New Hope Island, located off the coast of Scotland. The island was initially settled 200 hundred years ago by a reformed slave ship owner turned preacher and his c
... moreongregation. They disappeared under mysterious circumstances (think Roanoke) . Now a newspaper magnate and his hand picked crew of investigators (in fields ranging from archeology to virology and exorcism (!)) head to the island to solve its mysteries. Once there VERY bad things begin to happen. I will say no more! The book was marvelously plotted. Intricately woven together are past and present. Every character had meat and personality. Even those I did not like we're Real. It was all deliciously creepy! I enjoyed every limited of it. less

A little slow getting started with all the background information, but What An Ending!

Good story I enjoyed it. The ending felt a rushed/abrupt.
