review 1: This was basically a story about a haunted house. A place where something so evil happened it tainted the structure for years afterward. Visiting the house causes the evil to latch onto the visitor, who if was lucky enough to escape the house unscathed, couldn’t outrun the ghosts of the people who had succumbed to the entity that currently resides in the structure. The latest affected are a group of schoolgirls who went to the house on some sort of field trip. The one person who managed to resist the haunting now has to go back and defeat the being inside to save the girls
review 2: I feel a bit odd about this book, which I think is a good thing. It has left me pondering about how I feel. On the one hand it has aspects that I am massively interested in 1920s
... moreoccultism and society. It also starts in Hull...yay! However there are so many narrative jumps that I was left eager to return to the world that Seaton was exploring but was not so find of the investigation itself. I did get the chills once whilst reading which is fab! But there was not enough of that for me to give this book four stars. I did make notes of some beautifully written sentences though. less
