review 1: Having read several series of Macintosh's fantasy genre, I was intrigued to try a different genre. I was not disappointed. Her character delineation, description of setting was vivid and brought both to life. The identity change of the central protagonist - Tom/Alex is reminiscent of her Destiny trilogy. The inclusion of authentic couture of the time was fascinating, as was the creation of the very strong, independent, Eden Valentine. As the final 150 pages drew closer, I read more voraciously, willing the reunion of Eden and Tom.
review 2: A soldier called Jones, fresh from the horrors of World War I, wakes up in hospital and has no idea who he is. Then he meets aspiring high society dressmaker Eden Valentine and an instant connection is forged. Eden, the
... more dutiful daughter of a Jewish tailor, breaks her long standing engagement to a family friend and marries Jones, whom she knows as 'Tom'. They are blissfully happy, with a baby on the way, when Tom leaves home one day and does not return. Has he recovered his memory? If so, do those memories include Eden? And what of her jilted fiance? He is not done with them yet. 'The Tailor's Girl' is the first of Fiona McIntosh's books that I have read and will definitely not be the last. A wonderfully romantic, poignant, ultimately uplifting story. less
