review 1: Aunque caí en este libro esperando algo del género steampunk y descubrí que lamentablemente la novela no tiene nada en ese sentido, me sorprendí gratamente que este autor desconocido para mi valiera dedicarle las horas que consumen 700 páginas.¿Cómo leer 700 páginas de un tirón? Hay que preguntarle a Felix Palma que hace gala de una destreza inusual para mantener al lector a lo largo de un arco argumental sorprendente. La novela cuenta de cinco arcos, en apariencia independientes, pero que gracias a la destreza del autor se entrelazan y adquieren un sentido unitarioa medida que la obra avanza y cuando concluye todo queda cerrado con broche de oro. Para ello, recurre a estrategias típicas de folletín y el tono en parte recuerda al pulp que poblo la literatura de ... moreciencia ficción y aventuras hace 50 años atrás. No obstante, aunque la lectura podría confundirse con una novela de aventuras, hay escenas de horror que indudablemente abrevan de un genio del horror cósmico como Lovecraft. Otro recurso que suelo aplaudir cuando aparece bien utilizado es la intertextualidad y la ficción histórica y biográfica. Tomar hechos reales de la historia o la vida de un personaje conocido y transformarlo ligeramente pero que aún así encaje con el resultado que nosotros conocemos no deja de sorprenderme porque requiere una destreza muy especial que Felix Palma maneja sin inconvenientes. Sin atreverme a agregar mucho más, uno de los protagonistas de esta novela es H.G. Wells.
review 2: It's a mesmerizing book with never-ending surprises. Very amusing and lively, it keeps the enthralled readers in a world of imagination where they cannot help themselves to digging more and more into the author's beautifully laid out story plot. Palma's characters take turns to depict this story, which uses the concepts of time travel and parallel universe. A sci-fic type of series packed with secrets and surprises that I can never be confident in my guess of where this actually is going. The very coincidence of the actual invasion with Emma's audacious challenge to Hurray for recreation of Martians' invasion from Well's novel of the "War of the Worlds" leads to the highest peak of the story, later which, a beautiful and true love blossomed between Emma and Hurray as they tried to survive through nightmares and devastating terrors of the invasion. I found myself sobbing in the middle of the night as I read those scenes, and I will stop here not to disappoint the interested readers for the upcoming episodes. The story also depicts the important role of the authors such that they give to the audience a chance to dream and imagine, which, during the Martians' invasion, was hard to do so. less
