review 1: This was an interesting book -- told in a really different style: the same day (Halloween) is depicted each year. Starts with the year 1943, and describes the life & times in a small railroad town. The boy desperately wants to work for the railroad, as his dad does, and his dad wants to steer him (and his other sons) away from railroad life. It is an interesting history, and also a story of a boy not understanding his father's gruff ways. The boy learns in the end how much his dad really loved him, and what a good person he was.
review 2: Now for my review it might not make sense. I really loved the book personally, but it did not have to do with what the author wanted to do with the book though. It is suppose to be about how dJimmy Cannon loves trains, but the
... more book had nothing to do with that at all. It is poorly developed on what the plot line started with. Now if we did not know what it was suppose to be about- it was a great book. less

Humor, voice. Coming of Age book in WV with trains. Each chapter takes place on All Hallow's Eve.

It started off ok but it began to get a little boring to me.
