review 1: World War II in Ireland? A new perspective. The young village matchmaker, apprentice to her grandmother, has a sixth sense about people. Her lonely clients are realistic about their situation and all eventually are pleased with the match she finds for them. When the Americans come looking for spy recruits in this neutral country, the matchmaker matches him to herself. Thus begins the odyssey this woman takes through war torn Europe, in the company of the state-appointed collector of folk-tales, a young man who is drawn under her spell.
review 2: While I love the writing style of Frank Delaney, this book lacked the curl-up-with-a-good-book comfort of his other books and of the first book in this trilogy. I ended up not liking any of the characters much, esp
... moreecially Miss Begley. I suppose that Delaney is writing about the human condition that no one is all good or all bad. Even the Nazi's in this unlikely senerio have their positive side.I'll read the third and hopefully final book in this trilogy in the anticipation that Ben wakes up, still an 18 year old and this has all been a silly dream. A giraffe Mr. Delaney? Really? less
